About a year and a half ago, when I worked in Irvine, CA, I went with a fellow named Scott Simpson to Red Rock Canyon[a]. Today the Santiago Fire, one of the many wildfires so common[b] to Southern California reached that canyon.
Scott's house is marked on the map below. The red area is the fire's spread. His house survived.
