H3 Ranch
This place has the best steak in the world, and you don't have to pay the highest price in the world for it, either!
H3 Ranch is situated at the corner of Main and Exchange streets in Fort Worth's historic Stockyards District. It's full name "Hunter Brothers H3 Ranch", comes from William, Robert and David Hunter, the three brothers who founded the restaurant and whose surnames the "H3" part of the name still refers to. The original H3 Ranch was located in Nebraska and owned by the brothers. Forth Worth's H3 Ranch opened in 1998 after nearly two years of preparation.
Those years really paid off. I can warmly recommend the "Kansas City Strip" steak, as well as the smoked sirloin steaks. What you get in the first case is a 16 oz slab of grilled meat, with a baked potato on the side that looks puny in comparison to the steak. Which should be pretty much what you want! The meat itself is very fine, perfectly grilled, and with little gristle - making it as close to the holy grail of a solid ingot of meat as I've ever seen.
The beer is served in huge, heavy glasses. If that's not enough, Booger Red's Saloon is located next door - you can go between H3 Ranch and the saloon without going outside - for more.
Even though the western style interior, huge steaks and beers - with the associated bedlam being typical of the atmosphere - would indicate an place for adults only, the H3 Ranch is surprisingly family friendly. Going there with an 11-month-old we had no problems finding a place to park the stroller, nor of getting a high chair for the little one. There were also a number of other families seated around us.
