Santa Maria del Pi

The church of Santa Maria del Pi[a] (Saint Mary of the Pine Tree - named after a pine tree that once stood near the church - stands a stone's throw off La Rambla in the gothic quarter of Barcelona. Surrounding the church are three small plazas - Plaça del Pi in the north-west and the two sections of Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol in the north-east and south-east. The current building is from the 1960s, the original one being built in the 14th century and destroyed by fire in 1936.
