I spent seven hours driving from Cervantes to Wave Rock. I got out, bought a ticket to wave rock, and started walking toward it. I was immediately beset by flies in a way I had never experienced (later, at Uluru, I'd be better prepared). So I ran to the rock. Snapped three shots in less than a minute. Ran back to the car. Got in, killed any flies that had followed me in - and didn't stop until I had reached Perth, three hours away.
