October Harvest
I really like autumn. It starts in August, when the near-endless days and bright warm nights of summer end, and the nights start to turn dark again. Then comes September, with the last warm days and the first hints of yellow and red foliage.
Then the show really starts. October comes with the colors, and while the month also comes with rains that last for days on end, when the weather is right October has no peer. The sky will light up like no other sky, and the red and orange light will have a counter melody in the yellow and red of the foliage. It's no wonder that photos taken in mid-October each year turn out to be over-represented among my favorites.
Here, for example, are three photos from the same spot. Different light, different moods.
October also brings interesting weather, like fog banks coming in from the sea.
It doesn't stop there. This is a month when I keep my camera batteries charged and ready to go.
There is even the odd warm sunny day, like a delayed echo of summer.
