Alfred Nobel didn't just hand out prizes for great science - he did some science himself, coming up with dynamite - a safer alternative to nitroglycerin. However, he still had some problems with various mixtures going off when they shouldn't - and that's why these blast pits can be found near his old factory in Vinterviken.
