Texas Sunrise
Having visited my friends and god-daughters in McKinney, TX, it was time to go back to Miami and get on the flight home. British Airways 208 departs Miami at 2040 local time, so I figured that starting out early Monday morning would enable me to comfortably roll into Miami some time Tuesday afternoon. With a total driving time of 19 hours and 39 minutes according to Google - say 20 hours - I wanted to do at least 13 hours during Monday, and do the final seven Tuesday. Thirteen hours of driving is not something I expect to comfortably do in one go, so I planned for one five-hour and two four-hour sessions, with about one hour of rest after each session, for a total of fourteen hours from start to finish. Run the numbers, and you figure out that departing at about 0600 is a good idea. First stop (lunch) at 1100, afternoon coffee break at 1600 and hit the motel bed at about 2100.
That all worked out great. I also got to see this sunrise at my first refueling stop.
