South Side Maui

Last time I drove south from Maui's Winery, following Highway 31, I gave up because the road was so bad that I was afraid I'd damage the car.

This time I wanted to see if I'd get any farther. To help me navigate, I bring up the GPS map and randomly stab my finger somewhere on the south shore of Maui, hoping that the device will register it as a waypoint on Highway 31. It does, and I'm off.

The south shore is beautiful. Very sparsely populated and cut through with lava flows and with areas covered in remnants of pyroclastic flows. With a massive mountain disappearing into the clouds to the left and the open sea to the right, it is a treat.

I had to take photos. Well, more than usual. I pulled up by the side of the road and came to a pair of hippies sitting and enjoying the view.
