If you take the District Line west from Paddington, and then switch at Earls Court, you can take the District Line on to Richmond. Fun unsubstantiated rumor from Wikipedia:
It is now believed there are more places worldwide with the Richmond name than any other.
The place really doesn't have much for it - besides a very large park to the south of Richmond Station. The day I was visiting it was raining, however, so I ended up at the local Starbucks.
